Backing Up Is A Collective Effort For A Business To Survive

cloud-backup-secure-business-dataWho’s in charge of securing your company’s vital and critical data? Is it you? Or is there someone else in charge of it? If you can’t answer any of these questions, then chances are, no one is in charge. And if no one is in charge, then your company is in deep trouble.

File Backup Should Be Top Priority

Every business owner knows this. File backups are very important. Loss of data files can cause serious setbacks to operations, to say the least.

Chad Brooks, senior writer of the Business News Daily couldn’t have put it in a better way. According to him, it not only hurts the business but it negatively affects everybody in the workplace as well. He states a Carbonite research where 66% of five hundred IT experts have gone through the agony of losing important company files. Out of the sixty-six percent, 50% stated that the loss of data had such a damaging impact on operations that business opportunities were missed while the other 50% stated that they suffered greatly from loss of profit.

According to the five hundred IT experts that took the survey, they would lose about $468,610 in revenue if any of their valuable data were lost. All in all, forty percent of the IT experts, servicing small businesses, admit that they could go out of business if ever their valuable files are deleted permanently. This can definitely trigger a domino effect causing the small businesses to close down as well.

Out of the sixty-six percent, 50% stated that the loss of data had such a damaging impact on operations that business opportunities were missed while the other 50% stated that they suffered greatly from loss of profit.

Whether it’s missed business opportunity or loss of profit, many of these IT experts agree that data loss has a negative impact on their employees. Their work-life balance suffers greatly. It’s also worth mentioning that their morale hits an all time low as well. Read also: Use this Carbonite offer code to save

The Carbonite research specifically pointed out that about 25% of respondents could not keep up with their work-life balance after their company’s data were either lost or stolen. While on the other hand, about 24% admitted a drop in the morale of the employees. The other 21% admitted that their IT department had to be micro-managed leading to a significant rise in attrition. So as much as data loss hurts the business financially, it hurts everybody in the workplace as well.

Unfortunately, these negative consequences aren’t enough to alarm the experts that took the survey. Sadly, almost 80% of them think that the chances of losing their valuable data are very slim. They don’t see it happening to them. And because of that, only one third of the companies that were surveyed have updated backups. Most of them had not backed up their files in a week and fifteen percent of them admitted they had not backed up in a month. Unfortunately, this complacency can hurt the business in the long run.

It only takes a couple of seconds to lose a file. And any kind of datum or file that’s lost can cause chaos in the workplace. There’s no doubt that data backup should be a top priority in the workplace.

When it comes to backing up files, we assume everybody is doing it until something goes wrong. Only then do we realize that our assumption was wrong. By then, it’s all too late. We’ve lost the files and the blame game starts.
